Kim Walker exhibits Gentler Passion, presenting a sound installation exploring the architectural forms surrounding hand-made sheds that pigeon fanciers build for their birds. Dookits or Doocots are hand-built structures constructed of wood or scrap metal and are used to house pigeons. Within Scotland there are structural remnants reflecting the traditions of rearing and keeping pigeons for racing and leisure. This tradition was prevalent in Europe and notably, within urban environments of Scotland.

Gentler Passion was generously supported by the Scottish Sculpture Workshop's (SSW) Winter Residency program 2013.

26 Collective Resident: Kim Walker

Kim says:

I focus on the incongruous: in making the familiar unfamiliar and highlighting beauty within the everyday. I create settings in which the mundane and the ordinary gesture can suddenly invoke existential and poetic meanings. I question the world of the everyday, asking fundamental questions surrounding notions of pathos, existence, the mundane and the unexpected.

Being together and apart, being elated and unhappy, being a success and being a failure, experiencing longing, regret and desire, and the incongruous instance are all concepts that my work questions.
